Well we have had time to get our feet wet here on this server and we have found out some pretty finite trends here so far.
PuGs everywhere…..
This is something that is really new to us because on Aggramar raid PuGs never went anywhere because they were filled with under-geared and under skilled players. Most of them didn’t have a guild because of a social disorder of some sort. Naxxramas was only mildly PuG-able there because of its simple fights and the fact that most people out geared it pretty early into the expansion. That is not the case on Area52. The Gearscore addon along with the Achievement system is used as a guideline to get you an invite. That, coupled with a visual inspection, will see if you are worth taking. Once you get an invite your performance is monitored and if you are sub par then you get removed and your spot is easily filled; this is a high population server that is full of Horde. The groups are stacked to appeal to peoples’ concerns about not having a decent chance to get gear; for example there is only a few of each class and spec in each group. All in all it is easy to PuG groups to get gear and that decreases the need for being a member of a guild to this end.
GDKP….
This is what myself and the other two officers have found to keep our interests and get us into end game content. We gave it a shot and got with a very organized and knowledgeable Raid Leader who is in the same spot as us. He has a guild with his wife and his alts and has no need to invite anyone or form a guild because this makes him good money, gear and gets him to endgame content. However this is not without its downfalls.
(We will get players who are geared and know the fights but they are the biggest douche bags to ever login to this game. I call them “Feral Raiders”. They remind me of the packs of dogs or cats that roam together and turn on each other over a chicken bone. These are players that are socially retarded, have no respect for authority and show no appreciation for the big picture. They have a sense of entitlement that makes me sick. They got carried through a raid and got the achievement and got the gear and when it comes time to raid they don’t pull their end. They are rude in the raid to the raid leader and other raiders, and my personal favorite: they feel the need to tell me how to play my class.)
The facts of the GDKP as of now for us is that we raid 2 25 man ICC raids a week. We are 6/12 in group one and 7/12 in group two. My Gearscore on my Shadowpriest is 5.5k and my Gearscore on my Pally Tank is 5.7k. I make about 4k gold per week in payoffs at the raids.
This is a great system, but for a game that has such a huge social aspect, it feels very cold. We are social with the people that run them, but other than the conversations we have in passing its a single serving like friendship. (Fight Club reference)
The Future…
When Cataclysm launches and the new Guild Leveling system is in place I can only guess at what impact it will have on this server. I would assume that either a ton of small guilds will form and push 10 man content and reap the benefits of the new system, or there will be a spawn of Giant guilds who will run a tyrannical rule over its members and cater to the players who only want to leech off the guild because of its benefits and will eat garbage just to stay. Now I am sure that there will be a few exceptions to these possibilities, but I doubt they will be the predominate norm on Area 52.
What does this mean for us???
Well I think with as tight knit as the few of us are now in the guild, we would favor finding 10 really nice people who mesh well with us as well as continue to GDKP 25 man and spend off nights working on 10 man content. With the hope that someday we find 25 people that can raid and drop the GDKP runs and do 25 man guild-only runs.
Hopefully you have read this and not skipped past this and gone to the application. We are looking for like minded people to raid with. We have very few requirements for our raiders:
- Be prepared – At least look at the fights on youtube and know your role in the fight.
- Don’t be a public whiner – Complaining in raid chat or guild chat does nothing but bring the moral down of others in the group and in the guild. Officers are here to listen as well as Guild leadership. Take it up with them and give them a chance to correct it.
- Be Respectful – Not of only the management but of the members too.
- Share our Goal – Understand that this guild is set up to have ALL of us put in so we can ALL get something out of it.
- Have Fun – This is the most important one. You pay to play this game, you need to get the most out of it and you can’t do it alone so enjoy the fact that it is a social experience.
If this sounds like the type of Guild you’re looking for, then please go ahead and fill out the application and we’ll get with you to chat in-game for further details.
Thanks and have fun!!
